Condo-TH-Loft Seminars
Purchasing a condo, townhouse and loft is different than living in a 'stand alone' house. Condos, townhouses and lofts are managed by association bylawys and rules that all owners must abide by. Some buyers feel this is constricting, some buyers think this is freedom.
Come to a free non-obligation seminar to understand the what association living encompasses.
In the meantime, here are some basics of Association living.
Association housing has become, in many ways, the most economical and practical home ownership available.
Below is a brief list of advantages and disadvantages to association living.
Advantages
- Condos/townhomes offer amenities such as swimming pools, putting greens, golfing, party rooms, bike paths, tennis courts, etc.
- Loss of privacy.
- Restricted by condo rules in regards to pets, storage, parking, garden/tree planting.
- May be smaller in square footage than single family homes.
- Unknown possibility of rising cost of association fees.
- Poorly run associations.
- Possibility of assessments.
- Some people may dislike living within close proximity to others. In condominiums and townhomes where people live close together, sharing common walls, facilities and services, there may be considerable loss of privacy.
- There are rules and regulations governing each project. Pets may be prohibited or restricted. The number of the people in the units may be limited as well as guests. You may be restricted from parking extra cars, vans, trucks bikes, boats or commercial vehicles. Regulations regarding the use of the amenities, what you can put on your patio, unit door, windows, etc. affect your sense of personal freedom. But, since the rules are for everyone and for the community’s benefit, most individuals see them as a positive factor. This may be an advantage, depending on your situation.
